Tanner Flowers Integrity Standard
The Purpose Of The Integrity Standard
The Tanner Flowers Integrity Standard exists to recognize crawl space contractors who demonstrate professional installation practices, disciplined workmanship, and respect for the homes they work in.
After more than twenty years working inside crawl spaces and documenting real-world encapsulation projects, I have seen both excellent installations and work that should never have been done.
This standard was created to recognize contractors who care about doing the job correctly, using proven methods that protect the structure, control moisture, and deliver a clean finished crawl space environment beneath the home.
Contractors recognized as Tanner Flowers Qualified Installers are expected to follow the installation principles outlined below.

Moisture Control And Drainage
Proper crawl space encapsulation begins with controlling moisture.
Installations must address standing water, exterior drainage issues, or groundwater intrusion before encapsulation materials are installed.
Where applicable, appropriate drainage systems such as interior perimeter drains, sump systems, or exterior grading corrections must be implemented to ensure the crawl space environment can remain dry long-term.
Encapsulation should never be used as a substitute for proper water management.

Vapor Barrier Installation Standards
A proper crawl space encapsulation seals the entire crawl space environment, including ground surfaces, foundation walls, and interior piers.
Installations should include:
• A continuous ground vapor barrier system
• Wall liner installed and sealed to foundation walls
• Proper wrapping of interior piers
• Fully sealed seams using approved tape or sealant
• Mechanical fastening where necessary for long-term durability
The completed vapor barrier system should create a sealed and controlled crawl space environment beneath the home.

Air Sealing And Environmental Control
Encapsulation requires controlling both moisture and air movement.
Vents, wall penetrations, and openings allowing outside air to enter the crawl space should be properly sealed.
Where required, crawl space dehumidification systems may be installed to maintain appropriate humidity levels and prevent moisture accumulation within the encapsulated space.

Professional Installation Practices
Qualified installations demonstrate attention to detail and respect for the structure being protected.
This includes:
• Clean material installation
• Properly sealed seams and transitions
• Secure attachment of wall liners
• Organized routing of mechanical components
• A clean finished crawl space environment
A completed crawl space encapsulation should appear intentional, professional, and durable.

Finished Crawl Space Standard
When completed properly, the crawl space should represent a controlled environment beneath the home.
A finished crawl space should be:
• Dry
• Clean
• Fully sealed
• Organized
• Visually professional
The installation should reflect workmanship that protects the structure while demonstrating pride in the quality of the work performed.
