I was speaking to my cousin yesterday, who recently retired from being a prominent attorney and local judge, also happens to be an author, and is a legit historian.

He's 79 years old now, and grew up around my grandfather, who himself would have been 99 on the 14th of July, had he still been here with us, and I was asking him questions concerning my family heritage.

I had heard stories concerning my great grandfather, although I never met him, but I had heard very little beyond that.

I have always said that I grew up with zero business background, but as I type this, don't let me lie to you, my grandfather on my mother's side did in fact own a small chair factory whenever I was a child. He closed up shop while I was still a young boy, and my only real memories from his shop, are of my cousins and I playing atop the large sawdust piles.

Beyond that, I had zero business background, if you want to qualify that as such, which I in fact do not.

Back to my great grandfather, whom I knew little of, turns out, his father was one of the original Flowers family members who came to Bradley County from North Carolina.

Everyone called him "Geneo", and he had a store at the Bates Pike, Kinser Road intersection, with his homestead on the opposite side of the road.

So there was an entrepreneur in my bloodline that I never knew of!

My cousin went on to say, "Tanner do you know what the Flowers men were known for being?"
I said, "No."

He said, "The Flowers men had quite the reputation for being hard workers. Everyone knew about how hard the Flowers family worked. And they were also known for being good to their women!"

He said, "People in Bradley County used to talk about the Flowers family because they did things differently than the locals. Slaughtering hogs for example: Locals would typically only slaughter hogs in December, so the meat wouldn't go bad. The Flowers family would slaughter hogs any month of the year, as they had a hollowed out log, where they were able to pack and salt the meat properly, so that it didn't spoil. Nothing wrong at all with what they were doing, but because it was different from what everyone else did, people talked about them."

I had heard the hard working stories my entire life. I do have plenty background in that category, and that could be why I am here today, helping progress business owners inside of one the most physically demanding industries that exist.

And the whole, "People talking about them because they chose to do things differently", well....just pay attention to what I've been preaching for 20+ years now.

Sounds like my great, great grandfather and I shared some similarities. That's refreshing to me, just as it is whenever I talk to other business owners who share like minded similarities.

If you do everything everyone else is doing, NOTHING about you will ever stand out.

If you ever wish to break away from "the norm", I'm always eager to have a conversation with you. To simplify that statement:

"If I were to hold up 10 finished project photos, from you, and 9 of your competitors, would anything about your finished project stand out amongst the rest?"

You could have 100 photos in the lineup and identify a Tanner Flowers project! That's the difference! And that's what I can teach you to be able to do as well.

That's what causes people to talk about you in a positive manner! That's the type of attitude it takes to create a real reputation, one worth building!

You have to bring the desire to the table on your own accord! I can't give you that! You either have the desire to become more, or you don't.

And if you don't, you know it, and there ain't no need in you spending any money with me if that be the case.
