I see a few of you putting out decent work these days.
Congratulations! I know that doesn't happen by accident. I also know that a lot of time, trial, and error have gone into you being able to do so. Now that you've learned this much on your own, you should be getting more organic leads, which requires more of your time running inspections, placing bids, and selling jobs. While you are conducting your regular business owner tasks, marketing, bookkeeping, juggling helpers, paying bills, etc., you have to get out there, and keep your pipeline full! If you're not bidding projects today, don't expect any business 90 days from now. And as you are focusing your efforts on keeping everything I just mentioned on task, who's doing your training? Just because you finally learned how to install projects pretty decently, doesn't mean jack shit for your helpers. Not only that, your helpers DO NOT POSSESS YOUR MINDSET. Don't believe that's true? I'll tell you a little secret Hot Shot....I always wanted to find more Tanners to work for me. Here's the truth: If anyone is like me, FOR REAL, they have their own business! READ THAT AGAIN! There is no one genuinely wired like us, that is going to put in their time working for anyone else! If they're working for you, they are not mentally like us. Recognize that folks! If they're still with you, THEY NEED YOU! They might be the BEST worker you have ever laid eyes on. But as I have had to learn repeatedly throughout the years, "Being an absolute beast of a worker, doesn't mean anything beyond that." They're just that. And don't ever forget, if they're truly more than that, you won't have access to them long. Back to the matter at hand, training these folks... How much time do you have set aside for this? After you get the next one trained, and they decide to dip out on you right in the middle of a French drain project, and you have to stop everything you're doing, in order to complete the task, so that you will be able to maintain your credibility, how much time do you have now to train their replacement?
